Charges: First-degree burglary, simple assault (domestic), violation of a no-contact order, intentional damage to property, interference with emergency communication, and false imprisonment.

There was also a related August 2015 incident in Brandon, SD, where Sioux Falls officers assisted with an assault involving him.
South Dakota court records show Derek Daniel Dreyer facing dozens of felony Identity Theft charges. They did not further pursue a case of identity theft against Derek.
We possess many hours of audio recordings of Derek admitting to crimes. Currently, our recordings of him are roughly 24 hours in aggregate.
Various audio recordings of Derek Daniel Dreyer exist in which he admits to committing identity theft. These include digging through people’s trash to steal personal information, attempting to cash fake checks using stolen identities, and using stolen identities to open accounts at Fidelity and other banks, draining their overdrafts and routing the funds to PayPal, claiming to have made six figures from this scheme.
He also talks about submitting stolen IDs to crypto exchanges to launder money, in addition to committing wire fraud through crypto exchanges using various illegal techniques, such as buying “dirty” coins (cryptocurrency obtained through illegal means) at a 20% discount and then laundering them, and using contacts in Siberia along with the exchange BTC-E to move and clean funds.
He acknowledges the severity of his crimes. He also states that he pays his ex-girlfriend’s mortgage. Given the scale of the criminal activity he describes in the recordings, it seems unlikely that the source of the funds for the mortgage is entirely clean. In one recording, he describes how a Chinese individual whose identity he used warned him before leaving the United States that “this is some task force shit” and to be careful, but the man ultimately did not care because he had already returned to China.
Additional recordings exist in which Derek admits to stealing cell phones and selling them to terrorists and other criminals after making the devices untraceable. He described breaking the links between IMEI numbers and the actual users of the phones, along with other illegal hacks and techniques that violate multiple federal laws. When asked whether terrorists and criminals were the buyers, he acknowledged that this was likely the case or that he otherwise didn’t care.
Text communications also exist in which Derek made unhinged threats to murder an individual, including inviting them to come over and "suck his dick." No threats of violence were made by the person who received this communication.
